Do schools in ontario have insurance to give sttlements incase of student injury?

    January 16, 2012 by Santis

I cut of my thumb through the second knuckle and am now missing a large portions of my thumb. I didn’t not purchase the student insurance at the beginning of the year because I didn’t think I would need it. Does the school have insurance that offer settlements for things like this even if there is no clear fault. Also if you know I can’t work prob for a few months due to recovery and sugeries does the goverment offer temporary dissability payments or anything of that sort?

Yes the schools are insured, but it’s liability insurance. This means in order to be compensated you need to show the school was liable for your injuries.

How do I convince my parents..?

    January 3, 2012 by Santis

to let me go to McGill University in Canada rather than Dartmouth College?

    Cost:
McGill International Student Total Fee: $16,689.92 USD

Fee includes: Tuition($14,561.70 USD), Society & other fees, Student Services/Athletics & Recreation, Registration/Transcripts & Diploma/General Administrative Charges, Copyright Fee, Information Technology Charge, SSMU Dental Insurance, International Health Insurance

Dartmouth Student Total Fee: $52,275 USD

Fee Includes: Tuition ($41,736 USD), Room, Average Board

Placement in the Top 200 Schools in the World:
    McGill: #35 (#1 in Canada)
Dartmouth: #99 (#11 in the US)

I live in the US and my parents said they don’t care about distance (to which then they vehemently said that Canada was a horrible idea), but would rather me go to school in the UK instead..they want me to apply to Dartmouth College, but when I showed them the above numbers they still insisted that I go to Dartmouth & refuse to let me go to McGill even though it’s less expensive along with the other things listed above. How do I convince them that McGill is the better choice if numbers won’t?

If you can get in to Dartmouth, you would be much better off going there. Grading at most Ivy Leagues is very lax, though Dartmouth lists the average grossly inflated grade for each course on the transcript, which kind of defeats inflated grades.

At least one can brag about an uber overall Gpa. Depending on UK university, that is probably a much better idea than a Canadian university. Sticker prices for colleges mean nothing. The relevant figure is the expected family contribution. The McGill figures do not include room and board which can range up to $17,000 per year at public universities in the US. For a student from a family of average means, around $90,000 per year, Dartmouth is far less than McGill, like 1/5 of the cost.
    Good Luck!

Medical insurance for an International student?

    December 16, 2011 by Santis

    hi,
I am an international student and am on my OPT now. I haven’t been to a doctor in 3 years now and all these years I had an international insurance. Now that it is going to be expire I was thinking to get an insurance. I was thinking to visit a doctor for a general health checkup. I would like to know which insurance would cover my visit to the doctor.

I am 24 years old male. Unemployed.

    Thank you

A doctor’s visit is very basic medical need, so almost all medical insurance provide such coverage.

    Your description is vague.

Go online and find a list of insurance agencies that interests you and that you can afford. Call each of them and ask about your question – that is where you get the best answer. You should talk directly to the source, not random strangers on Yahoo! Answers.

There should be student health center at your school where you can get affordable medical care.

can my school force me to buy their health insurance only?

    November 9, 2011 by Santis

my school didnt have a health insurance for international students. now recently they have started one from aetna. i already had another insurance with another company. my old insurance’s coverage actually meets or exceeds the minimum required by my school. my school’s international adviser is saying i must buy their insurance and wont get a waiver to keep my old one. can they force me to buy their insurance only? i like my old insurance, and it will now cover my pre-existing conditions, but i will have to wait again several months in case of the school’s insurance.. what do i do now? please help..
    mine is a community college

Is this a public or private school. If private they can do just about anything they want.

I would take it above the international adviser’s head before I changed though.

About the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)?

    November 4, 2011 by Santis

    Hi everyone;
I have a question about the EHIC, I do not have British or European Nationality, I’m an International Student in England and I wanted to know if I can apply for the EHIC card?
It sais you have to do it by post and provide further informations and documents but I dont know how and what to do, can anyone help me with this issue?

    Thanks indeed.

Well, I don`t know anything about the English system, but here in Germany your health insurance provides the EHIC card. So I guess you need to have some kind of insurance in Britain and they can assist you with all other issues and questions.

Can somebody give me a suggestion for which health insurance do I need to use for hip replacement surgery?

    October 28, 2011 by Santis

Hi everyone, I am an international and I am currently using Professional Service Inc (PSI) health insurance which is sponsored by AIG and can only be used by international students. Two years later, I need to do a hip replacement surgery but I don’t know whether that insurance is reliable or not. I call that company, but someone never answers the phone. I start to wonder if that is fake or not. I live in Hawaii so if you know there are any good health insurance please tell me. Thank you so much for your helping.

    That company has a website:

Read your policy. Then have your surgeon’s office do the details for you. They do it all the time.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois?

    October 19, 2011 by Santis

I’m an international student at MSU but I would like to waive the international health insurance fee because I have been living in Michigan for 6 years. My waiver request must include a Schedule of Benefits (for example: maximum amount paid for injury/illness, deductible per policy year, etc) of my insurance company. I can’t seem to find it anywhere online. Where would I find it? My company is Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois and my dad’s employer is Walgreen’s. My mum, brother and I are dependent of him. This is very important. Thanks so much.

I’m having to pioneer through new problems with my BCBS coverage at least once a month. It is so difficult to get a straight answer out of them online or on the phone, and they purposefully overwhelm people with paperwork and waiting.

Maybe someone in the Y!A insurance section might have some good suggestions:

Also, I found this MSU page that seems to have some guidelines and information for international students and their protocol for waiver requests.

    http://www.googlesyndicatedsearch.com/u/admis?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=waive+the+international+health+insurance+fee&btnG=Search

I also found this contact information at MSU which may be able to direct you once you’ve read to them what you’ve written in this question. At the bottom of the page are several contacts for Office for International Students.
